The Ministry of National Defence announced that an aerial target was detected on the night from Thursday to Friday, approximately 20 kilometers east of Galați. To monitor the situation, the Romanian Air Force scrambled two F-16 aircraft.
At the same time, the authorities issued a RO-Alert message for the population in eastern Galați County and northern Tulcea County. The measure was intended to inform residents in the areas concerned about the detected aerial situation and the need to follow the authorities’ instructions.
According to the MApN, no incursions by the target into national airspace were reported. The F-16 aircraft tracked and monitored the situation as part of the procedures applied in such incidents.
The Ministry of Defence has not yet provided any other details about the nature of the detected aerial target or the duration of the surveillance mission. The incident occurred as the authorities closely monitor the airspace near Romania’s eastern border.
