An 81-year-old woman was killed by an 18-year-old man in the commune of Băbiciu, Olt County. The aggressor, G. C. C., hit her multiple times with a piece of firewood in the head, causing fatal injuries.

The incident occurred on February 2, 2026, following a spontaneous conflict, and the young man admitted that he committed the act out of fear that the victim would report him to the police regarding counterfeit euro banknotes he had given her in exchange for a sum of money. Prosecutors announced that the young man was detained for 24 hours and will be presented to the Olt Tribunal with a proposal for preventive arrest for 30 days.
