Starting Thursday, several museums in Paris, including the Louvre, the Palace of Versailles, and the Opéra Garnier, will introduce additional fees for visitors from outside the European Economic Area. Citizens from outside the European Union will pay more; for example, the ticket price at the Louvre will increase to 32 euros for tourists from countries like the United States and China. This measure aims to raise additional funds for the renovation of national heritage sites, with estimated revenues between 20 and 30 million euros annually.
Unions have opposed this policy, considering it unprecedented in Europe, and the Louvre Museum is currently closed due to a strike by employees protesting the dual pricing system. In comparison, other major European museums maintain uniform rates for all visitors, regardless of nationality.
