The Greenville County medical examiner’s office determined that 36-year-old Hayden Panettiere died from the toxic effects of fentanyl and other substances, including alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine. No physical injuries were identified as having contributed to her death.
The actress was found unconscious on August 16 at an apartment complex in South Carolina. Police found no indications of homicide, but the investigation, in which the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration also participated, continued. Panettiere, known for her roles in “Heroes” and “Nashville,” had spoken publicly about addiction, postpartum depression, and domestic violence. Hayden Panettiere is survived by a daughter she had from her marriage to Vladimir Klitschko.
