The six people aboard the Heartbeat 104 medical aircraft are presumed dead after the aircraft disappeared during the flight, and the United States Coast Guard ended its search for survivors on Sunday evening.
Latitude Air Ambulance, the flight operator, said that four crew members, a patient, and the patient’s companion were aboard. The passengers were four Canadian citizens and two citizens of Bermuda. The company expressed its condolences to the families and announced that it would continue to cooperate with authorities in recovery operations and the investigation.
The Federal Aviation Administration lost contact with the Gulfstream G-100 aircraft on Saturday morning, shortly after 1:00 a.m. local time. Wreckage from the aircraft was discovered the same day.
FlightAware data indicates a rapid drop in altitude, from approximately 7,300 to 3,300 meters. Radio transmissions recorded communication problems between the pilot and the air traffic controller. The pilot reportedly subsequently declared an emergency, but his response was not clearly understood.
