A medical helicopter crashed Wednesday evening off Catalina Island, near Los Angeles, killing two people and injuring two others. The surviving victims were pulled from the water and transported in stable condition to hospitals on the mainland.
Los Angeles County firefighters announced that, during the night, rescue teams searched for a fifth person who had reportedly been on board. The aircraft sank to a depth of approximately 73 meters, about 35 kilometers from the county coast. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident. The helicopter reportedly belonged to REACH Air Medical Services.
