Born in Czechoslovakia, Tom Stoppard dropped out of school at 17 and became one of the most acclaimed playwrights, winning prestigious awards on both sides of the Atlantic. He was awarded a Tony Award in 2023 for his play "Leopoldstadt" and won an Oscar in 1998 for "Shakespeare in Love." Stoppard was known for his unusual associations in his works, combining themes such as philosophy, gardening, and rock music. He has written over 30 plays and had a prolific career in television and radio. In 2014, he was named "the greatest living playwright" by the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards.
