Sam Neill, the New Zealand actor whose career included Oscar-winning films and blockbusters such as "The Piano" and "Jurassic Park," has passed away at the age of 78, reports The Guardian.

The announcement of the actor's death was made on Monday, through a message posted on his Instagram account.

The cause of death was not specified, however, Neill had recently revealed that he had managed to recover from cancer after being diagnosed in 2022 with a form of leukemia.

His death was announced as being "sudden and unexpected."
