Astra Film Festival, a traditional event dedicated to non-fiction cinema, will begin on Friday evening at the Thalia Hall with an opening gala. This year's edition includes over 70 documentaries from around the world, of which 65 will have their world, European, or national premiere. The films are divided into five competitive sections: Romania, Eastern Europe, Emerging Voices, DocSchool, and the new DocShorts, and are grouped into 11 thematic sections, addressing current issues such as identity, migration, and the impact of the media.

The festival will take place between October 17 and 26 and will offer the opportunity to watch online two-thirds of the films for two weeks after the awards gala. Additionally, the Astra Film Junior program will include documentaries and educational activities for young people, addressing themes relevant to the current generation. The festival is organized by the Astra Film Foundation and co-financed by the Sibiu City Hall, having the right to nominate films for the European Film Awards.
