Starting from January 7, 2026, access to the famous Fontana di Trevi in Rome will only be allowed with an entrance ticket, which will cost 2 euros. This measure applies exclusively to tourists, while locals will be able to visit the fountain for free, having a separate queue. Tickets can be purchased directly at the entrance, including by card. The Romanian authorities have announced that the revenues generated from ticket sales will be used for environmental improvement, public transport, and the restoration of historical monuments, aiming to create a more welcoming city for visitors. The Fontana di Trevi, one of the most popular tourist attractions, has been overcrowded, leading to difficulties in access and a less pleasant experience for tourists. The introduction of the ticket is expected to regulate access and contribute to the municipality's budget, with estimates indicating a possible revenue of up to 20 million euros annually, considering the large number of visitors.
