Vincenzo Montella is no longer Turkey’s head coach after the Istanbul Football Federation decided to end its collaboration with the Italian coach following the results in the Nations League. Montella leaves the position after approximately three years, 40 matches, and qualification for the World Cup.
During his time in charge of the national team, the Italian secured 21 wins, five draws, and 14 defeats. Although he still had a contract until the summer of 2028, Montella is expected to receive five months’ severance pay. According to Fanatik.tr, with a monthly salary of 183,000 euros, the compensation amounts to 915,000 euros.
Montella was appointed Turkey’s head coach in September 2023, after having managed teams such as AS Roma, Fiorentina, AC Milan, Sevilla, and Adana Demirspor. His departure comes at a tense moment for the Federation as well. Mevlut Aktan announced his resignation, claiming that the institution cannot be managed “with the mentality of a family business.” Three other members of the leadership are also reportedly considering stepping down. Turkey have a squad valued at 411 million euros.
