Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany, 40, fainted after a team training session and was rushed to hospital. The incident took place at the club’s training ground, where an SMURD helicopter also landed, according to information reported by Sky Sport and initially published by daily newspaper Bild.
The Belgian coach was already dealing with health problems after contracting a viral infection last week. Because of it, Kompany missed several official events and training sessions, including Monday and Tuesday’s training sessions.
Visibly weakened, the manager watched from the technical area as Bayern Munich secured a comprehensive 6-1 victory over RB Leipzig, but he did not take part in the post-match interviews. Later, ahead of the Champions League match against Arsenal, which ended 2-2, assistant coach Aaron Danks held the press conference in his place.
Kompany returned to the touchline for the match against the English side, but his health continued to be monitored. So far, the club has not provided any further information about the manager’s diagnosis or the length of his hospital stay.
