Antoine Semenyo will be unavailable for approximately eight weeks, Enzo Maresca announced on Monday ahead of Manchester City's Champions League match against AEK Athens. The Ghana international suffered a leg injury in the 3-2 victory over Ipswich in the league on Saturday.
Initial medical assessments suggested the possibility of a more serious injury, but subsequent examinations eased concerns. Maresca said the problem is not muscular and that Semenyo is expected to return around December. The manager believes the player will have the energy of a debutant when he returns to the field.
Erling Haaland's situation is less worrying. The striker limped at the end of the match against Ipswich, but Maresca said there is a chance he will be available for the clash with the Greek side.
Manchester City are coming off a 4-2 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad and need a victory to strengthen their European campaign. The English side won their opening group-stage match, 2-0 at Porto, and Maresca dismissed the idea of making wholesale changes for the match against AEK Athens.
