Venus Williams pulled off a surprise victory at the WTA tournament in Washington, defeating Peyton Stearns 6-3, 6-4 after a one hour and 37 minute match. A former world No. 1, Venus returned to the court after a break since the Miami Open in March 2024, accepting a wild card into the tournament. Her last victory coming in August 2023, Williams has 14 Grand Slam titles to her name, including seven singles titles.
