After Spain's victory against Argentina in the World Cup final (1-0, after extra time), the official ceremony began with the handing out of awards. Spaniard Borja Iglesias, despite his reluctance, shook hands with Donald Trump, while Argentine Cristian Romero avoided this gesture, without any political connotation. The Argentinians were the first to be awarded, receiving the runners-up medal, and Lionel Scaloni's players were rewarded for their difficult journey. Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president, and Donald Trump handed out the awards, just like in the 2022 edition. Romero, decorated by Infantino, did not wait to shake Trump's hand, continuing on his way. Iglesias, known for his commitment against racism, shook Trump's hand without looking him in the eye, quickly leaving after receiving the medal. He has 9 caps for the Spanish national team.
