The Autodromo Internacional do Algarve circuit in Portimao will return to the Formula 1 World Championship calendar in 2027, according to an announcement made by the championship promoter. It will replace the Dutch Grand Prix, which will be removed from the calendar after 2026. The agreement between Formula 1 and the Portuguese circuit is valid for a period of two years, until 2028. The circuit, with a length of 4.6 km, is known for the technical challenges it offers to drivers, including spectacular elevation changes.

Although exact dates have not been announced, the Portuguese Grand Prix will replace the competition in the Netherlands, held at the end of August. Portimao was included in the F1 calendar for the first time in 2020 but was removed in 2022. Previously, Portugal hosted other Grand Prix events, including in Porto, Monsanto, and Estoril.
