The Swedish Football Federation has decided to dismiss the national team coach Jon Dahl Tomasson, after a disappointing start in the qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup. Sweden is currently in last place in Group B, having only one point from four matches, including three consecutive losses, the latest being a 0-1 defeat against Kosovo.
The President of the Federation, Simon Astrom, emphasized that the decision was made due to the team's unsatisfactory results. Although direct qualification seems compromised, Astrom hopes for a change in dynamics that will allow the team to reach the playoffs. Tomasson, at the age of 49, has been the coach for a year and a half, and his successor's name has not yet been announced. Graham Potter, former coach of Chelsea, has expressed openness to take over the Swedish national team.
