Romania's national team lost its first three matches in this Nations League international window: 1-2 against Sweden on September 25 (Strawberry Arena - Solna), 2-4 against Bosnia and Herzegovina on September 28 (National Arena), and 0-6 against Poland on October 2 (National Stadium - Warsaw). In the final match, Romania faced Sweden on Monday at 21:45 at the National Arena in Bucharest, a match that ended with a 0-1 victory for the Swedes.
The Swedes opened the scoring in the 14th minute with their first dangerous attack on Hindrich's goal. Nanasi appeared well at the far post and hit the crossbar, and the ball fell to Gyökeres, who, with the entire goal open in front of him, completed a simple formality. Gyokeres entered Nations League history as the only player to score in seven consecutive matches.
Romania could have equalized in the next attack, when goalkeeper Johansson deflected Rațiu's cross into his own defender, but the ball ricocheted wide. At halftime at the National Arena, Sweden led 1-0.
At halftime, Hagi replaced Bancu with Lisav Eissat. The Swedes controlled possession during the first ten minutes of the second half. Stanciu sent the first shot on target in the 58th minute. In the 63rd minute, Dennis Man sent Florin Tănase through well into the opponents' penalty area, and the Tricolorii striker shot first time. Johansson managed to intervene.
In the 69th minute, Hagi made three substitutions. Stanciu, Răzvan Marin, and Olaru came off, with Ianis Hagi, Valentin Mihăilă, and Cicâldău coming on in their places.
In the 83rd minute, Florin Tănase made way for Cătălin Cîrjan.
The Tricolorii failed to threaten the opponents' goal again, while the Swedes had a huge chance in the first minute of stoppage time. Sweden won 1-0 thanks to the goal scored by Gyokeres in the first half.
