Luis de la Fuente, the coach of the Spanish national football team, stated that he is delighted with the team's status as a favorite for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. On the eve of the friendly match against Egypt, De la Fuente emphasized that Spain, the European champion and world ranking leader, is among the group of favorite teams, alongside France, England, and Brazil. Although he acknowledges the pressure of this status, he stated that the team wishes to rise to the expectations and continue to win.

Spain recently defeated Serbia 3-0 in a friendly match and will play another friendly against Peru on June 8, before debuting in the World Cup on June 15 against debutant Cape Verde. Spain's group also includes teams from Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.
