Lise Klaveness, the president of the Norwegian Football Federation, stated that Gianni Infantino no longer has the institutional trust necessary to lead FIFA during the current period and called for him to resign immediately.
The statements were made following a meeting of the federation's leadership, during which the controversial situation of the FIFA president was discussed. Infantino, who has been at the helm of FIFA since 2016 and is the only candidate for re-election, must obtain the majority of votes from the 211 member associations in March 2027.
The FIFA president is facing a crisis after the failure of the plan to open the organization to private investors, which generated controversy. Although FIFA's leadership apologized for the communication errors related to this proposal, it reaffirmed its support for Infantino, who has also been criticized by collaborators.
