The French Football Federation withdraws its support for Gianni Infantino ahead of the FIFA elections in March 2027

The French Football Federation (FFF) withdrew its support on Thursday for Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president, who is running for a new term in the elections scheduled for March 2027, in Rabat, Morocco. The decision was confirmed by Philippe Diallo, the FFF president, during the executive committee meeting.

The withdrawal of support comes after the failure to establish a commercial company for the World Cup, a project promoted by FIFA leadership and opposed by Philippe Diallo since its first revelations. The president of the French federation believes that FIFA governance must be changed to become more ethical and transparent.

France had previously signed, alongside other federations, a letter of support for Infantino’s re-election in Rabat, but subsequently revised its position. In recent weeks, Sweden, Scotland, Italy, Romania and Belgium have likewise announced that they no longer support the FIFA chief.

The opposition is now seeking a credible candidate. Victor Montagliani, the 60-year-old president of CONCACAF, is considered one of the possible options to enter the race against Infantino.
