FIFA has announced that it will increase the payments to the participating teams in the 2026 World Cup, reaching nearly 900 million dollars.
The FIFA Council, meeting in Vancouver, approved a 15% increase in funds for the 48 member federations, with each team set to receive 2.5 million dollars for preparation, up from 1.5 million dollars previously. Additionally, the funds for qualifications will increase from 9 million dollars to 10 million dollars.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized that the organization is in the strongest financial position in its history, thus allowing for the reinvestment of resources in football. However, UEFA has expressed concerns regarding the spending of teams, especially for those that do not reach the final stages.
The 2026 World Cup will be the first edition with 48 teams and will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, having the potential to become the most profitable in history.
