Curacao, an island in the Caribbean with a population of 156,115 inhabitants, has achieved a historic performance by qualifying for the World Cup for the first time, scheduled for next summer in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The team, coached by Dick Advocaat, completed the qualifying campaign without defeat, finishing first in Group B with 12 points, ahead of Jamaica by one point. Although Advocaat was not present at the decisive match against Jamaica for personal reasons, the team demonstrated remarkable play, including a 7-0 victory against Bermuda.
In contrast, Costa Rica and Honduras were eliminated from the race for the final tournament after a 0-0 match in San Jose, where both teams needed a victory to hope for qualification. Suriname secured the last playoff spot, having a goal advantage over Honduras. Thus, Panama, Curacao, and Haiti qualified directly, while Suriname and Jamaica will contest the inter-confederational playoffs. The draw for the group stage will take place on December 5 at the Kennedy Center in Washington.
