In August, CFR Cluj announced the termination of its collaboration with coach Antonio Folha after disappointing results, culminating in a 0-5 defeat in the third qualifying round of the Conference League against Tromso. Alongside the coach, the club also parted ways with the technical staff, while Ioan Varga subsequently promised an injection of 5 million euros to cover the debts, so that the team could reactivate its sporting plans.
Against the backdrop of insolvency, the club also benefited from the restoration of its right to make transfers: the FIFA ban imposed because of debts was lifted on Monday, 7 September, and CFR announced several signings in the final hours of the transfer window, including Belgian striker Jelani Dumas from Benfica and other players registered on the same day (among them goalkeeper Arpad Tordai, defenders Iva Ghelaşvili and Leo Saca, midfielders Adi Nalic and Ervin Omic, as well as Sergiu Buș and Billel Omrani).
At the same time, after the defeat against UTA (0-1), coach Marius Șumudică said that he was considering leaving CFR Cluj and announced “decisive” discussions with the players and management in the following week, with his dissatisfaction relating both to the team's attitude and to the conditions in which he works.
