Cătălin Chirilă won the bronze medal at the EC in the 500-meter kayak-canoe, after winning gold in the 1000-meter.

At the European Championships in Racice, Cătălin Chirilă managed to get the bronze medal in the single canoe canoe 500 meters, after a close competition. Gold was won by Czech Olympic champion Martin Fuksa and silver went to Moldovan Sergei Tarnovschi. Chirilă finished just 33 thousandths ahead of Tarnovschi, having won gold in the 1000m the day before.
