In August, the Republic of Moldova had a trade deficit of 556.6 million dollars, which represents an increase of 93.3 million dollars compared to the same month of the previous year. Exports increased by 22%, reaching 332.6 million dollars, due to higher deliveries to the European Union (+29.8%) and, to a lesser extent, to CIS countries (+5.4%) and other markets (+2.9%). On the other hand, imports rose by 20.8%, reaching 889.2 million dollars, with a 26.7% increase in purchases from the EU and 16.7% from other countries, while imports from the CIS slightly decreased by 1.6%. In the first eight months of the year, the total trade deficit reached 4.63 billion dollars, compared to 3.5 billion in the same period of 2024.
