A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Alina Iancu, will conduct a visit to Chișinău from May 7 to 20, according to the announcement by Svetlana Cerovic, the resident representative of the IMF in the Republic of Moldova.

The mission will discuss with the authorities a program supported by the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI), which aims to analyze recent economic developments and update the assessment of macroeconomic risks. In February 2026, the IMF Board of Directors mentioned the interest of the Moldovan authorities in a new agreement without a financial component, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the relationship with the IMF to accelerate reforms and support accession to the European Union. The Government of the Republic of Moldova believes it has sufficient financial support from the European Union, which will provide 1.9 billion euros in the period 2026-2027. The new agreement with the IMF is seen as a tool to strengthen macroeconomic stability and attract foreign investments. The PCI program aims to assist the country in developing structural reforms and preventing economic crises.
