The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and the Speaker of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, did not attend the reception organized by the US Embassy in Chișinău on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the United States.

The country's leadership was represented by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, who conveyed a message of appreciation for the strategic partnership with the USA.

The absence of the leaders from Chișinău was speculated by representatives of the opposition and pro-Russian media, who suggested, without providing evidence, that this would reflect a deterioration of relations between the Republic of Moldova and the United States.
