Maia Sandu, the President of the Republic of Moldova, will make a working visit to Brussels to present the country's progress in its European path, as part of an enlargement report. Although the report is laudatory, the optimism of the European Commission is tempered by Hungary's veto, which affects the accession negotiations, especially in the context of the tandem between Moldova and Ukraine.
The agenda of the visit includes meetings with high-ranking officials, including the President of the European Council and the Commissioner for Enlargement. Moldova obtained candidate country status in June 2022, and accession negotiations began in 2024. The report highlights Moldova's progress in the face of hybrid threats, but the opening of negotiations is blocked by Hungary's opposition. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu stated that he will resign if Moldova does not sign the Accession Treaty by 2028.
