Maia Sandu, the president of the Republic of Moldova, delivered a video message at The Economist conference, emphasizing that "Southeast Europe is at a turning point," and that freedom and democracy are in danger.
She stated that "the truth has become a frontline," highlighting the need to act decisively to strengthen democratic institutions. Maia Sandu pointed out the impact of economic crises and the war in Ukraine on the stability of the region, mentioning that the Republic of Moldova has managed to resist and adapt.
She also highlighted Romania's constant support in modernizing infrastructure and promoting European integration.
"In our efforts, we have not been alone. Romania has always provided steadfast support. Romania has stood by us when we needed help, to modernize our infrastructure and together we are developing transport links that help strengthen connectivity between us.
Romania has been the strongest advocate of our European path. As we enter these uncharted waters, no country can stand alone. Only by working together as partners, as a community with shared values, can we protect what we have achieved”, said Maia Sandu.
The conference brought together leaders from Romania, Europe, and the United States to discuss the stability and development of the region in the current geopolitical context.
