The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, stated that the subject of unification with Romania has not been discussed with European leaders, emphasizing that European integration remains the main priority of the authorities in Chișinău. In a TV8 broadcast, Sandu asserted that joining the European Union is the "plan A" and rejected the idea of an alternative plan. She mentioned that a potential unification with Romania would require a referendum, according to the Constitution, and emphasized the importance of national security. The President highlighted the majority support of the population for European integration and warned about geopolitical risks, including the influence of Russia. Additionally, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu stated that he would vote for unification, but only as a citizen. Experts suggest that unification could be considered a plan B in the context of current challenges.
