The decision to denounce the agreement with Russia regarding the operation of the Russian House in Chisinau was approved by President Maia Sandu and published in the Official Monitor. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova has been instructed to inform Russia about the unilateral withdrawal from this agreement, which came into force on July 4, 2021. The actual withdrawal will be possible after July 4, 2026, according to regulations. The decision has generated protests from the Russian community in Chisinau, which gathered approximately 4,000 signatures for the continuation of the operation of the Russian House. The Russian Embassy condemned this action as a move that escalates tensions, while diplomatic sources indicated that Moscow does not wish to deteriorate relations. Relations between Moldova and Russia have significantly deteriorated since Maia Sandu came to power in 2020 and the expulsion of dozens of Russian diplomats in 2023.
