On Friday, Alexandru Munteanu was officially proposed by the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) for the position of Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, and President Maia Sandu signed the appointment decree. Munteanu, a businessman without prior political experience, will need to gain the trust of Parliament, where PAS holds the majority.
Maia Sandu expressed hope that the new Government will meet the expectations of citizens, including regarding EU accession and economic strengthening. PAS leader Igor Grosu mentioned that Munteanu will propose the government team and the governance program, with hopes for a swift investment. Munteanu, born in Chișinău, has a vast career in the financial and educational fields, being the founder of the French Alliance in Moldova and having experience at the World Bank. He was awarded the Legion of Honor from France for his professional merits.
