Diana Buzoianu, USR deputy and Minister of the Environment, has initiated a bill in Parliament aimed at extending the criminalization of sexual harassment outside of work relationships. The bill proposes that harassment be sanctioned even in cases where it occurs just once, under conditions of pressure that create a state of fear for the victim. Buzoianu emphasizes that the current definition in the Penal Code does not reflect contemporary realities and that sexual harassment must be treated seriously, regardless of the context in which it occurs.
The USR bill redefines sexual harassment and extends criminal liability in various situations, including in educational environments and in relationships of dependency. Buzoianu states that it is essential for women and girls in Romania to feel safe and that there is a need for an improvement in legislation to protect victims.
