Former liberal leader Theodor Stolojan believes that Nicolae Ciucă would be the most suitable candidate for the presidential candidacy, in the absence of support for Mircea Geoană.

Stolojan said that without the backing of a party, Mircea Geoană would not succeed in an election campaign, paving the way for other possible candidates. He emphasized that Ciucă has the experience of making decisions in critical situations, while Geoană is perceived as a bureaucrat. Stolojan also mentioned the possibility of both Ciucă and Ciolacu running for the presidency.
