The United States Ambassador to Romania, Darryl Nirenberg, had a meeting on Tuesday with George Simion, the leader of the extremist party AUR.

According to a Facebook post by AUR, the discussion was described as "very good" and emphasized that, regardless of political developments, the relationship between Romania and the USA will remain strong. Until the publication of the article, the US Embassy had not provided details about the meeting.

The meeting takes place against the backdrop of a strategy by the Trump administration to support anti-EU parties in Europe, according to the US National Security Strategy from December 2025. This strategy promotes the idea of "cultivating resistance" to European integration and supports nationalist parties, which has generated controversy among European Union leaders.
