Dominic Fritz asks George Simion what he discussed with U.S. Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle before the motion against the Bolojan government

USR leader Dominic Fritz asked George Simion on Saturday to explain what he discussed with U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle at their meeting on March 31, amid allegations concerning the ouster of the Bolojan government and the promotion of U.S. gas imports to Romania.

Fritz asked the AUR leader whether the censure motion and “what he was promised in return” were discussed at the meeting in Bucharest. The message came after The Wall Street Journal, cited by G4Media, reported that the ambassador allegedly said at a dinner held in Athens that the United States had contributed to the ouster of the Bolojan government.

Sorin Grindeanu acknowledged that he had discussed the Vertical Gas Corridor with Guilfoyle, but described the other allegations as “fabrications.” George Simion said he was “good friends” with the ambassador and that her statements were either invented or taken out of context.

The Bolojan government was dismissed in May through a motion supported by the PSD and AUR. Before that, the PSD had decided through an internal vote to withdraw from the governing coalition. The dispute also centers on pressure to purchase liquefied natural gas from the United States through the Vertical Gas Corridor, a project criticized because of its high costs and prices above market levels.
