AUR Senate leader Petrișor Peiu rejects allegations that the US ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Ann Guilfoyle, was involved in the dismissal of Ilie Bolojan as prime minister. The response comes after claims emerged alleging supposed US support for removing the government.
Peiu says the decision to submit a joint no-confidence motion was made by five people from the leaderships of AUR and PSD, without the participation of the US ambassador. The senator says that he and Marian Neacșu drafted the motion and that Guilfoyle contributed no ideas and wrote no passages.
In a Facebook post, Peiu stressed that the motion was approved by more than 280 deputies and senators, while the ambassador was not among those who voted. He thus rejected any connection between her and the parliamentary procedure that led to the dismissal of the Bolojan government.
Separately, PSD President Sorin Grindeanu denied having requested help from the United States. He said the government was dismissed through a parliamentary vote, amid dissatisfaction with the way it had governed, and rejected the existence of secret agreements or external intervention.
