Diana Șoșoacă, the leader of the S.O.S. Romania party, announced on Monday that she has started the procedure to suspend President Nicușor Dan, having so far 155 signatures from parliamentarians.
She refused to disclose the parties from which they come, mentioning that there is a scandal within them. Additionally, Șoșoacă stated that over 400,000 members and supporters of the party support Dan's dismissal.
She criticized the lack of consultations for appointing a prime minister and called for early elections. The reasons cited for the suspension include refusal to mediate and violation of the Constitution. The suspension procedure is regulated by Article 95 of the Constitution, which states that the president can be suspended by Parliament and dismissed by referendum.
So far, there have been two precedents of suspension in Romania, both related to Traian Băsescu, which were invalidated.
