The integrity law, adopted by the Senate with 105 votes

The integrity law was adopted on Wednesday by the Senate plenary with 105 votes "in favor", 8 votes "against" and 7 abstentions, after previously passing through the Chamber of Deputies.

Although USR and PNL criticized the project in the specialized committees, both parties voted in favor of it in the plenary.

Among the contested amendments is a PSD amendment regarding the termination of local elected officials' mandates in certain situations of incompatibility or conflict of interest. This provision could have implications even in the case of the mayor of Timișoara, Dominic Fritz. USR and PNL criticized the amendment and argued that certain provisions could raise issues of constitutionality or application.

Another amendment is the one supported by AUR, regarding the situation of the life partners of dignitaries and the obligations to declare certain assets or interests. PSD and AUR decided to keep these provisions in the form of the project submitted for the final vote.

After being adopted by the Senate, the law can be challenged in the Constitutional Court. If the CCR rejects the referral and the normative act passes the constitutionality control, the project will go to promulgation. The president can promulgate the law, can return it to Parliament for re-examination, or can also challenge it in turn at the CCR.
