The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, announced a decisive meeting for today, in which scenarios for reducing fuel prices will be analyzed, in the context of increasing pressures on consumers. Ivan emphasized that a real decrease in prices could come from fiscal measures, such as reducing VAT or lowering the excise duty. The executive is considering abandoning the fixed fuel tax in favor of a dynamic excise duty, which could protect consumers against rising international oil prices. The Intelligent Energy Association has forecasted three scenarios for price developments, with a possible maximum of 14 lei/liter for diesel in the case of a barrel of oil at 200 dollars. The increase in fuel prices will also affect food prices, and the Romanian Government has officially declared a crisis situation in the fuel market until June 30, 2026.
