On October 22, the Chamber of Deputies approved a bill that introduces voluntary military service for young people, which will then be sent to the Senate and subsequently for promulgation. Young people aged up to 35 can apply to participate voluntarily in a military training program lasting up to 4 months, with meals, accommodation, and equipment provided. At the end of the service, participants will receive 6,000 euros.
The Minister of Defense, Ionuț Moșteanu, emphasized the necessity of this program, mentioning that the operational reserve of the army is aging and that mandatory military service has not existed since 2007. The project aims to rejuvenate the reserves of the Romanian army, providing young people the opportunity to become familiar with the army and to remain in reserve. After the four months, they will be compensated with three average salaries.
