The Chief of the General Staff of the Defense, General Gheorghiță Vlad, stated that, depending on budget allocations, Romania can prepare annually between 1,000 and 10,000 military personnel in voluntary terms. He emphasized that, although it will be a voluntary military service, the selection will include specific physical, psychological, and medical requirements for each specialty. The training will not be fully specialized, and in four months, it is not possible to train F-16 pilots or operators with Patriot systems.
The general mentioned that the operational reserve has an average age of 48 years, and military personnel can be kept active until the age of 63. The Ministry of Defense proposes amending law 446 to introduce voluntary military service, with the aim of improving the country's defense capabilities.
