The Austrian Minister of the Interior, Gerhard Karner, arrived in the Port of Constanța, where he held a press conference alongside his Romanian counterpart, Cătălin Predoiu. The discussions focused on bilateral relations and the security of Europe, in the context of challenges related to migration. Karner was asked about Austria's veto against Romania's accession to Schengen, explaining that it was a difficult decision, emphasizing that it was not an action against Romania, but a safety measure for Austria. Predoiu also addressed the accusations against Chief Commissioner Georgian Drăgan by the publication Recorder, with his defense highlighting the importance of press freedom. Regarding a possible support for a technocratic government led by Eugen Tomac, Predoiu avoided giving a clear answer, emphasizing that the subject needs to be discussed within the party. The visit took place as part of an integrated exercise to combat illegal migration. At the end, Karner handed Predoiu the documents of an ancient gold coin recovered by the Austrian police.
