Deputy Prime Minister Tanczos Barna stated that he expects a negative opinion from the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) regarding the law on the retirement of magistrates, highlighting a real risk of losing 230 million euros in European funds. Barna mentioned that the CSM's opinion will come quickly, but it will not be favorable. He also expressed concern that the deadline of November 28 for the adoption of the law will not be met, which could lead to sanctions from the European Commission. The draft law proposes significant changes to the pension system for magistrates, including a service pension of 55% of the average gross allowances, but no more than 70% of the last net allowance. The CSM has begun consultations with the courts and prosecutor's offices to centralize the views of magistrates before issuing the opinion. Romania needs to resolve this issue to avoid significant financial losses.
