Siegfried Mureșan discusses with the PNL parliamentary groups on Tuesday

Prime Minister-designate Siegfried Mureșan will meet on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. with the joint parliamentary groups of the National Liberal Party (PNL) at Parliament to present the priorities of the proposed government program. The discussions are taking place as the new Cabinet is being prepared and negotiations are underway to secure parliamentary support.

Mureșan is also scheduled to meet with the parliamentary groups of the Save Romania Union (USR) and the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), the other parties that have expressed support for forming the Government. The prime minister-designate said on Monday that he would first hold talks with the parties supporting him, followed by discussions with lawmakers from other parliamentary groups.

He announced that he would also meet with the parliamentary group representing national minorities. Subsequently, Mureșan said, it would be “the moment of truth” for the Social Democratic Party (PSD). The prime minister-designate said he would not go to the headquarters or parliamentary group of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR).

Siegfried Mureșan said he was entering negotiations with the explicit and transparent support of three parties, unlike the first two prime ministers-designate. On the same day, the PSD National Permanent Bureau decided not to support the proposed Government. The recommendation is to be forwarded to the party’s National Political Council, the statutory body that will make the final decision.
