Liberal Siegfried Mureșan says he has held discussions with PSD lawmakers dissatisfied with the way Sorin Grindeanu is leading the party, but states that he did not negotiate with them over a possible vote for the government proposed by PNL, USR and UDMR.
The statements were made on Digi24, amid preparations for the parliamentary vote on the new government. Mureșan says that lawmakers from the PSD’s second tier told him the party was heading in the wrong direction and that there are members who consider themselves potential alternative prime ministers to Grindeanu.
The Liberal says he did not negotiate with them, citing respect for the PSD’s elected leadership. He argued that, in the event of a political failure for Sorin Grindeanu, dissatisfied party members could act as they did in the past, when PSD presidents lost the party’s support.
Mureșan also criticized the PSD’s discourse in Parliament, saying that the party had adopted a populist tone and that, together with AUR, it had not demonstrated “the last shred of Europeanism.” The statements come amid disputes over support for the new executive and internal tensions within the PSD.
