INSCOP poll: 55.9% of Romanians would support Romania becoming a semi-presidential republic.

Semi-presidential republic with greater powers for the president

55.9% of those polled would agree that Romania should become a semi-presidential republic in which the president elected by popular vote would have greater powers than at present, 41.1% disagree and 3% don't know or don't answer.

They would agree with the transformation of Romania into a semi-presidential republic in which the president elected by popular vote would have greater powers than at present, especially: PSD-PNL and AUR voters, people with primary education, rural and small urban dwellers. They oppose the transformation of Romania into a semi-presidential republic in which the president elected by popular vote would have greater powers than at present, especially: ADU voters, young people under 30, people with higher education, inhabitants of Bucharest.

Parliamentary republic

13.3% of Romanians would agree with turning Romania into a parliamentary republic in which the president would be elected by the members of Parliament, 84.5% disagree, and 2.2% don't know or don't answer.

The PSD-PNL voters, the over 60s, the inactive passive and those who do not have an account on social networks would be the most likely to agree with Romania becoming a parliamentary republic where the president would be elected by the members of Parliament. They oppose the transformation of Romania into a parliamentary republic mainly: AUR and ADU voters, people under 45, people with a higher level of education, Bucharest residents.
The opinion poll was conducted by INSCOP Research commissioned by the News.ro news agency.
The data were collected between 20-25 May 2024, using the CATI method (telephone interviews), with a simple, stratified sample of 1100 people, representative of the significant socio-demographic categories (sex, age, occupation) for Romania's non-institutionalized population aged 18 years and over. The maximum allowable error of the data is ± 2.95%, at a 95% confidence level.
