The Ministry of National Defense of Romania has signed a contract for the acquisition of 18 F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft from the Government of the Netherlands, announced by Minister Ionuț Moșteanu. The aircraft will be used exclusively for training and instruction, including for the training of Ukrainian pilots. The acquisition is made at a symbolic price of 1 euro, highlighting the importance of developing the European F-16 Training Center in Fetești, which serves as a regional hub for NATO pilots.
Moșteanu emphasized that this project reflects the trust of Dutch partners and the professionalism of the Romanian Air Force, mentioning that Romania continues to invest in defense and in solid partnerships. He also highlighted that the integration of F-35 aircraft into the equipment of the Romanian Air Force is a future objective.
