After more than two decades since joining NATO, Romania is considered an active and responsible member of the Alliance, according to the Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță. He emphasizes that membership in NATO is the foundation of national security and a guarantee against threats, mentioning that Romania also assumes responsibility on the Eastern Flank through investments and concrete contributions to regional security.

“Membership in the Alliance remains the foundation of our security and the guarantee that any threat is managed within the framework of allied solidarity. We are on the Eastern Flank of the Alliance, in a strategic and sensitive area. This is not just a geographical reality, but also a responsibility. And Romania assumes this responsibility through investments, through presence, and through concrete contributions to regional security,” said Radu Miruță.

Miruță states that security is not a given, but must be constantly built, and the Romanian Army is modernizing and adapting to a constantly changing security environment, including hybrid threats and disinformation. He emphasizes the importance of unity among NATO member states, which ensures stability through transatlantic partnerships.

“The Romanian Army is already doing this. We are modernizing capabilities, working hand in hand with our partners, and we are quickly adapting to a constantly changing security environment. Today we are not only talking about classic threats, but also about hybrid warfare, disinformation, and pressures coming from multiple directions. NATO functions because member states are united. For Romania, this unity means stability, through the transatlantic partnership and through the solid relationship with the United States and other allies, in an increasingly unpredictable world,” adds the minister.

Additionally, Miruță pays tribute to Romanian soldiers:

“They fulfill their duty with professionalism and dedication. We owe them our respect and gratitude.”

Romania remains a reliable ally in NATO, committed and responsible, “without hesitation” and “without half measures.”
